Free health screenings and other health-related festivities will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 23, 2019 at the Bessemer Recreation Center, 100 14th Street South, as part of BEssemer Healthy Jam.
The event is sponsored by Building Healthy Communities Bessemer, a healthy initiative of the UAB Minority Health & Health Disparities Research Center. Other sponsors include the Bessemer Recreation Center, Cigna Healthspring, America’s First Bank, Therapy South and American Family Care.
A grassroots coalition of Bessemer residents worked with the MHRC to formulate the event. The BEssemer Healthy Jam will include free health screenings, natural and healthy foods and entertainment, instructions on holistic healthy lifestyles and financial literacy.
Ricky Davis, a local Bessemer farmer, will also discuss aquaponics and growing a garden in water.
