Bessemer Active, Fit, Healthy campaign to start April 1

Are you an avid walker? Have you ever considered the Mayor as a walking partner? Starting on Saturday, April 1, the city of Bessemer’s Parks and Recreation Department will kick-off the “Bessemer Active, Fit and Healthy Campaign.” The kick-off event will start at 10 a.m. Saturday morning at the Bessemer Recreation Center and include health screenings and a “Walk with Mayor Gulley.” The campaign, which will last through August, is part of effort to encourage better health among Bessemer’s residents and support and promote Bessemer’s parks. Bessemer residents interested in taking part in the campaign can create a group of up to 10 walkers. At least once a month through August, the walking groups will participate in a walk with the Mayor at a designated city park. The most active goup will be recognized at the end of the campaign. For more information and how you can become involved, contact the Bessemer Recreation Center at (205) 425-0655.
