Bessemer Hall of History Museum: A museum dedicated to perserving the area’s past as well as educating our youth and others on what our city was like years ago. Located in the renovated Southern Railway Depot on Alabama Avenue, the Hall of History displays historic photographs and articles, Civil War memorabilia, Indian artifacts, furnishings from the 1800s and other items from the early days of the area. The museum has monthly exhibitions and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Open Tuesday – Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. No admission charged. Historic Homes: The West Jefferson County Historical Society operates three pioneer homes: the McAdory House, Owen Home and Sadler Home. Located in South Bessemer, these homes are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. For more information, call the Bessemer Hall of History, at 205-426-1633.

Downtown Bessemer: Sixteen blocks in downtown Bessemer are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Downtown is home to the legendary Bright Star Restaraunt, the Jefferson County Courthouse, Debardeleben and Alex Bradford Parks, the Hall of History, shops and businesses.

Bessemer Flea Market: Central Alabama’s most interesting indoor and outdoor flea market offering shoppers a paradise in a festive atmosphere. Open Friday-Saturday. No admission. 1013 8th Avenue North. 205-425-8510.

Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park: Birthplace of the Birmingham iron and steel industry, Tannehill is presently one of Alabama’s most unique state parks. Built around the ruins of the pre-Civil War Tannehill Ironworks, this state park has become an accurate reflection of life in Alabama during the mid-1800s. The park has more than 200 campsites, 1500 acres preserved for hiking, horseback riding and also the Alabama Iron and Steel Museum. The park has a cotton gin, pioneer farm, a working grist mill, a turn of the century church and gift shops. Trade days are held the third weekend of each month. Open every day. Alabama Splash Adventure:   The state’s premiere theme and waterpark. Now is the time to plan your trip to Splash Adventure, located minutes from Birmingham where 1-20/59 and I-459 meet at exit 108. Alabama’s premiere seasonal water park featuring slides, rides, waves, food, shops and fun. Open daily during the spring and summer months. Admission fee. Alex Bradford Park:First Avenue and 19th Street, downtown Bessemer. Named for Bessemer native and popular jazz musician. Lighted public area with benches and fountain. Open daily. Site of the annual Bessemer Farmer’s Market. No fee.

Debardeleben Park: Third Avenue North and 16th Street in downtown Bessemer.Named in honor of the city’s founder, Debardeleben Park features picnic tables, sidewalks, bandstand and the renovated Doughboy statue in memory of World War I veterans. Open daily, No fee.

Bessemer Recreation Center and Roosevelt Park: The new Bessemer Recreation Center opened in 2016. The Recreation Center includes an indoor pool with kiddie area, an indoor track, exercise room, activity rooms and a college-regulation basketball court. The newly renovated Roosevelt Park includes a walking trail, baseball and softball fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, a splash pad and multi-purpose field.

Frank House Municipal Golf Club: 801 Golf Course Road. An 18-hole public course with challenging terrain, lakes and hills. The banquet facility at the newly renovated Clubhouse is available for rental.  Call 205-424-9540 for more information.
