City awarded infrastructure funds for Highway 150, Avenue I bridge improvements
Mayor Kenneth Gulley has announced that the city of Bessemer will receive $2.25 million in funding from the state of Alabama to address improvements to Lakeshore Parkway and the Avenue I bridge.
The funding from the state is being directed to the city from two recently established state programs - the Rebuild Alabama Act and the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program II.
Bessemer has been awarded $2 million from the ATRIP-II program for improvements on State Highway 150 from Morgan Road to Lakeshore Parkway. Bessemer was one of 27 applications out of 72 to be awarded funding through the ATRIP-II program this fiscal year, according to a letter from Governor Kay Ivey.
The city has been awarded $250,000 from the Rebuild Alabama Act grant program to repair and remediate the Avenue I bridge over Highway 150, according to a letter from Mr. John Cooper, State Director for the Alabama Department of Transportation.
"We are extremely pleased to receive these two rounds of funding from the state of Alabama," Mayor Gulley said. "We have worked very hard to make sure that needed projects in Bessemer are funded and that Bessemer receives its share of funding when state grant funds become available."
