Resident input needed on COVID Grant Application
The City of Bessemer Economic and Community Development Department will host a virtual public hearing on Monday, March 22, at 3 p.m. to receive public comment on an application to the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs or ADECA.
ADECA has allocated the city $500,000 in Community Development Block Grant Cares Act, or CDBG-CV, funding as part of its efforts to “prevent, prepare and respond” to COVID-19. The city proposes to apply for $70,000 in initial grant funds and proposes the following activities:
• Microenterprise Assistance - $25,000.
• Purchase COVID-related equipment for public facilities - $45,000.
The city may apply for additional funds from ADECA at a later date. Residents are invited to take part in the virtual public hearing by accessing the Zoom information at the bottom of this page.
Residents can also forward comments via email on the proposed application to Mr. Abraham Ward, Bessemer Community Development Department, at award@bessemeral.org beginning on Monday, March 22 and ending on Friday, March 26 at 4 p.m.
