Police Department

Welcome to the Bessemer Police Department! It is indeed a pleasure to serve. Our department has 115 Sworn Police Officers and a Professional Staff of 40 persons. The City is experiencing immense growth and progress, so it is necessary for its law enforcement to stay ahead of safety and order concerns. We plan to add additional officers to our staff to better meet the City’s expansion.

Our agency strives to meet the needs of our very diverse community. Serving a population of nearly 30,000 residents with major traffic arteries of I-20/59, I-459, Highway 150, and Highway 11, we address needs through a robust Patrol Division, Jail Division, Traffic Motor Scouts, Criminal Investigation Division, Administrative Division, Training Division, Special Operations Division, Community Service/Crime Prevention Division, Environmental Unit, Special Response Team, Parking Enforcement, and Internal Affairs Division.
