City Council approves $56 million operating budget for FY 2018
The city of Bessemer will operate with a $56 million general fund budget for fiscal year 2018 after the City Council unanimously approved the Mayor’s funding request. The budget was approved unanimously by the council during its November 7 meeting. It goes into effect immediately. The budget is a 3.7 percent increase from the city’s fiscal year 2017 budget. The budget includes a two percent cost-of-living increase for city employees, funding for additional officers in the Bessemer Police Department, funding to combat blight through demolitions and weed enforcement and funding to combat flooding in the Pipe Shop community.
